It's funny, I started off thinking going into medicine ever since I was a little girl, so I knew I wanted to go into that area of science and just loved it. By the time I went to college, all of a sudden there was just a sequence of events that started to change where medicine wasn't quite the fit for me, but I came across great mentors that actually, I worked alongside them and showed me the field of dentistry and I fell in love with it. It's just treating the whole person and the different aspects of it and measure what you can do with it. From research, to teaching, to the advances with dentistry, I thought it was very promising and I just loved it, I never regretted it.
I graduated back in 1999 from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, it's now called Rutgers. And then, been practicing for now about 18 years. Continuing ed, it ranges because it's hard to keep up. They have a very strict rule of how you should do your credits and so I've done over and beyond because I love all aspects. I've done things like composites, implants training, ortho in terms of how to straighten for young kids--which has been amazing to improve the quality of life there. I've done things like root canals, advances in that, and just new dental materials that are out there. Once you start learning on that, it's something else comes out every six months.
Now, the latest is things with crowns where we're milling it in-office, so learning how to use that, implementing, getting it in a few days versus waiting weeks for a crown—you can get it in just a day or two so it's been great, I'm learning a lot.
